should my internal fish tank filter sit at the bottom or top of the tank

If it's a box with holes in the top and no mounting provisions, it should be placed on the bottom of the aquarium. Some other filters are designed to externally hang on the back of the aquarium. They usually have a large L-shaped flange on one side. Others are built into the hood. Can you post a picture?

Are there any suction caps at the back of the filter ?

Is the filter like this?

If yes then should be placed at the bottom vertically

can i install internal power filter upside down in my 24 litre aquarium? (motor at the bottom close to gravels)
