I bought a large toadstool leather on Friday night (over 48 hours ago). At the time of purchase, it was fully expanded, polyps out, good color, etc.... I brought it home (only 15 minute drive), acclimated it by drip acclimation for a few hours, then placed it in the tank. Ever since then, it has really shrunk up

That's just what they do. It's adjusting to the change in water conditions. In a few days it will shed the waxy layer and come back good as new.

I have one in my tank that was weird and like this for about two months- I kept waiting for it to die, but it never actually did... and wasn't stressing anything nearby out, so every week or so, I'd move it to another location- and finally found something it liked, because last week it started shedding and has started extending polyps like nothing was ever wrong.
