I recently got a small goldfish with a 1.5 gallon tank. He has been fine for two weeks now. Last night I notice he had more black on him then when I got him. He was also down at the bottom of the tank. I went to a pet store and they recommended T.C. tetracycline. I have done two doses and nothing seems to be changing. I don't have the cartage filter in but filter is running. Can anyone suggest what I can do.

though gold fish can able to surivive in critical condition but i think that the ammonia and nitrogen in your aquarium are very high,so collect that water and test to your nearest aqua shop...you also do 50% water change right now..and what is about filtration?how many times you feed it?

okis,so you may provide over foodings.when you give him food you must keep in mind that extra food that don't go on the bottom, when it goes downwards and waste it can cause NH3 and nitrogen level high.since you have a small aquarium so it is harder to maintain...only carefull maintainance can cause your fish well..

When you put fish into a new aquarium, the rapid change of environment can weaken their immune system. In addition, an aquarium should be fully cycled before fish are added. Before they cycle, new aquariums usually have toxic ammonia and nitrites. Goldfish tolerate those things better than most fish. While some medications work when used exactly as directed, they are usually not necessary in a fully cycled, well balanced aquarium. Our blogs give more details about those subjects.
