I have been away for quite awhile and my neighbor has been taking care of my aquarium. He has done a great job, everything is up to par and no dead fish. The only problem that I have now is I am loaded with small snails, they are all over my aquarium and plants. The good part about it is I don't see any alge on anything. Everything is as clean as a whistle. Is this because of all the snails and the 6 otos that I have in the tank? If so, I guess I should leave a few of the snails in there and get rid of as many as I can. Now how do I go about getting rid of the majority of these snails, I say that there are probley about 30-35 snails in my 44 gal aquarium. So what say you all, what is the best way to solve my problem.
Thanks,
Phil

My favorite way is to use a bait like a lettuce leaf. Float it on the aquarium surface for a couple of days and nights, then toss it and the snails into the garden. Substantially reducing the snail population and keeping it under control is an ongoing task. Without using poison, you will never get rid of all the snails, but a few are sometimes a helpful part of the aquarium environment. A snail population explosion is sometimes caused by a little over feeding.

the brown ones are tricky and plague like. if they are super bad you might have too much food in tank. (i always over feed) a little salt makes them uncomfortable but might stop their excessive reproduction. best to get a dwarf puffer or clown loach. Also goldfish will eat snails quit nicely. If you bring in new plants soak your plants in potassium promangenate first. It is in " Clear water" by jungle brand. it is for cloudy water but will disinfect all you equip and plants. kills algae and micro-organisms and does a number on snails. Here is a pic of the GOOD snails i breed. {Magenta apple snails}.

Thanks! I am proud of my apples! And yes I am starting to rehome some. They are not so big yet (dime size) I have magenta and orange, purple with orange eyes, and golden. Their rehoming fee is $1.00 a snail. and yes they ship..snail mail!::
