Hey,

I put a starfish (Orange/Red Linkia (sp)) into my 6 month old reef last Friday, and I am wondering what kind of behaviour they exibit under 'normal' circumstances. He (?) spent the first 2 days or so huddled in the corner near the top. On day 3, he did a few laps around the tank and huddled near the heater, again at the top. So, a week later (today) he did a few laps around (after I thought he was dead) the tank and is now attached in the back near the bottom of the tank. He is looking a little swollen up now, but that has been going on and off. The only water parameter I am not liking to much is Nitrate (at 10-15 ppm) everything else seems fine. (sal 1.024, tmp 78.7, Ammonia 0, Nitrite 0, alk is normal(mid) cal is 440. phosphates 0). I know how sensitive these little fellas are, but I do not know their 'normal' behaviour

What size tank do you have? These guys are REAL sensitive to changes. I have heard that they are amongst the hardest starfish to keep.

Hey,

My tank is a 55G, and I have 2 clowns, 2 shrimp, about 50 hermit crabs, 5 scarlet crabs, brain coral, torch coral, Green hairy mushroom, bunch of Zoo polyps, and the hitch-hikers (about 3 crabs as far as I have seen). I have heard they are really sensitive to, and besides top ups (about half point a day) nothing changes to much.

I have had one of those red guys for 3 1/2 months now, and that's exactly what he does all the time. He loves to hang around within the places with stronger water current. Just make sure you add a little of plankton in the water every now and then. Ernie

Well, that is good to hear. I was thinking he was on deaths door. I will look into adding some plankton! Anything other info you can provide would be appreciated!
