For the last 10 days or so my 2' Arrowanna keeps tapping at the glass on top, he doesn't do it very hard, and he's gave himself a fat lip, I wish he would stop it, I wonder why he's doing it? He does it about twice an hour, it's weird, he only does it in the center where the glass is fixed (it's a one foot piece that goes front to back) btw it's a 100 Gal tank, I know it's too small for him now. He's jumped out of the tank 4 times already even with large rocks on the lid, now I have 8 bricks holding the lid down, and I'm not even confident that is enough weight, he's so strong. Any idea how to make him stop the tapping? I don't have room for a larger tank for him, So I'm woefully considering selling him, just for his own well being, Roughly how much is he worth? He's perfect besides for the fat lip and I've raised him from a baby, I think he's 4 years old. Where is the best way to advertise?

I saw this post..and found it interesting.
Sorry..realize it is over four months old.
My daughter & son-in-law had an arrowana. It was very fascinating to watch. It was over 2 feet long.
Took up almost the entire length of the tank it seemed.
The story is that it had jumped out of their 225 gallon so many times they lost count. It too would bang against the glass constantly.
You can't blame the arrowana, though..this is just part of it's nature. In their natural habitat they JUMP to get their food...if & when they get hungry...which is "most" of the time!! ( the larger they become.. more feedings are required).
As much as they loved it ( it was a "cool" looking fish)..it also killed many of the other fish in the tank with it..due to it's size and aggression. It also was notorious for "biting fingers" whenever being fed..again..not meaning to..but jumping for it's food. Anyway..basically..there isn't much a person can do to stop them from doing what comes natural once they reach maturity.
Sadly...my daughter & son-in-law lost their's a few days after it had jumped out of the tank for the last time. ( and yes..they are "very" strong..as they had weighted the lid down also)
They had gone away for an evening & when they arrived back home.. it was on the floor. Not sure how long it was there before they were able to get it back into the tank.
In answer to the other question..where can a person advertise? The newspaper...or ask around at LFS's. Sadly though ...most people do not want them after they reach their full size..as it takes such a HUGE tank & they will not tolerate many other fish in with them. From working at the pet store...so many people come in and see fish they think would be really cool to have..but they do not always realize how large they will become...or what personality they exhibit. Best to "research" ANY fish before buying. Those cute little Oscars?.. get huge. Same goes for the Pacu...enormous. Just they way it is.
Anyway..Here's a pic. of their Arrowana.
I know my son-in-law really misses it.

Sometimes, older posts are quite interesting and informative. It's one way to stretch a conversation over several months or years, maybe the aquatic version of a time warp.
