Well I found this tank in a local fish store and paid 50$ for it. The owner wasn't sure how many gallons it was but i liked it. Can anyone here help me figure out how many gallons it is? It is as long as a 55 gallon but only as tall as a ten gallon.
48L x 13W x 12H ...I checked on those online calculator and it said 32.41 I just need to know what the exact is like 30..33..or 35 and if its a long or an extra long..

the basic way of calculating is multiply hight , length and width and then multiply the result with 7.5......it will be the final result in gallon.

It's just a shallow aquarium. Some species of fish prefer shallow aquariums with lots of horizontal space.

No. The substrate should have no effect on pH. Some fish prefer to spawn in shallow water, so you may want to research it.

thanks will do... I have a question about beach sand if i use that as a substrate i suppose it will add some salinity to the water but would it make it saltwater or just brackish?

Beach sand could have all sorts of contaminants, parasites, and diseases. You could sterilise it to remove all the live cooties, but you may still be left with chemical residues. It's probably better to buy substrates that are commercially prepared for aquariums. Here in Phoenix, Walmart is about the cheapest place to buy aquarium gravel.

I don't know what moon sand is, but if it is not sold specifically for aquarium use, you may want to avoid it. If you really want to give it a try, put some in a glass full of aquarium water, and check water parameters in a day or so. You can also see if it's reactive by pouring some vinegar on it. Of course, this still does not tell you the chemical makeup of the sand or whether it breaks down after long exposure to water.

its like black sand with white specks it's made for aquariums. It's pretty pricy like 30$ for 20lbs but i was wondering if you need a special filter for fine sand.

Fine sand would not work with an under gravel filter, but it should be OK to use with other filters. When i started in the hobby, most aquariums had a white sand substrate and a box type filter. If you just want a black substrate, you could use black gravel or black Fluorite. The Fluorite (probably the wrong spelling) will help live plants grow. To save money, you could put a layer of the expensive stuff over the existing substrate.
