I'm in the middle of putting together a hood for my 77 using T5 envirolites. I've got myself a Workhorse ballast and the lights are on the way. My problem is that all I've seen around are the traditional 'twist' sockets for the T5s. I'd much rather the cap-style connectors like the Hagen Glo-Mat uses. Maybe this extremely helpful image will explain: http://www.hagen.com/uk/aquatic/product.cfm?CAT=1& SUBCAT=105&PROD_ID=... <sarcasm off>

Has anyone found a source for these bulb caps? I've tried a few lighting distributors and they only carry the twist-style. Lighting stores didn't even know there was a T5 fluorescent. I did see one reefkeeper site that sold them for $10US a pair - but considering I'll need about a dozen total that isn't really viable.

I never used them, nor do I really think they are necessary if you have a glass top on your tank.

Most ballasts and whatnot are designed to be used in damp environments, so the glass keeps the water out, and they should work fine in very humid environments.

My house hasn't burnt down yet

Mine neither. Nor has the store, which is really a miracle, considering all the extension cords and power bars..

<snip>

Their site is down right now, but dutchaquarium.com also uses sealed T5 lights (uses a cap & gasket which is screwed over the fixture around the tube). Send them an email for price & delivery, or it they can supply you with the name of their supplier.
