I have a 55 gallon tank which is a community and my Tetras don't seem to school. I have 8 Black Neons, 8 Zebra Danios, 7 Otos, and 3 Gourmis. Anybody know why my fish dont school anymore?

Gee I had this problem for a long LONG time.
it was only solved when I moved to a much bigger aquarium - big enough so if the fish got scattered in the aquarium there was a significant distance between each other (about 10-15 inches).
I also added a school of Buenos Aires Tetras, which are big and fast, which makes the neons be aware of their surroundings.

It's about 120 gallons, but I don't think you need it that big.

My neons don't school much unless they think there is danger. If someone other then me walks up to the tank they group up.

The Neons will school only with their own species. Since the Zebras are also fast swimmers, maybe they are trying to occupy the same space (level) in the aquarium.

oh so that could be a problem. The fish are all just spread out everywhere occupying every level of the tank.

That's just a guess assuming that black neons act the same as the regular type. In the wild, shoaling fish do so in very large numbers. Since neons are small and the aquarium is fairly big, you may need a larger number of neons. Just be sure to avoid over crowding, and make sure all of the fish are compatible and require the same environment.

Actichy you should get at least 8 in my opinion seeing as they are schooling fish and they might become stressed out for having only a single counterpart.
