I recently started working for a company that has a 55 gallon...or something around that...fish tank. The guy that did my job before I got here also maintained it on the side. It then became my turn - i did some research and really enjoyed it.

Thats the tank - im also getting a new tank for my house which is why im here because I have a lot of questions which ill post soon. I just wanted to say whats up though.

NICE tank....
What all do you have in there (fish wise)?
It that a Tin foil Barb you have there in front?
At first I thought it looked like a Pacu.
I was hoping not..Pacu's grow up to 3 feet or more.

If we can be of any help should you have ??'s..
don't be afraid to ask!!

LOL..that was a fast reply...
With your bala sharks...are you aware of how large they get?
I know some will tell you they only grow as large as the tank
they are in..or that they will only be around 6 inches...not so.
I have seen Bala's that were around a foot.
Since these are fast swimming...and love to school in groups..
a tank of at least 75 gallons is needed eventually.
I know when I worked at the the LFS..we had people bringing them
back in all the time because they just got too large for their tanks.

With your little gourami...if it is still eating....
try soaking some flakes in garlic juice. ( smash a piece of fresh garlic).
This won't hurt the other fish either..in fact it is great for their immune systems.

Dumping in medications for sick fish seldom works as well as a few partial water changes. You should also isolate the sick fish so you don't wind up with a tank full of fish suffering from the terminal cruds. Not all species of aquarium fish thrive in the same conditions, and they don't all get along with each other. When I got into the hobby, I wish someone would have told me about the advantages of single species aquariums. If you don't have much time to do research or maintenance, consider goldfish. They're tough little guys and come in a variety of interesting colors and shapes.
