My dwarf gourami spent all yesterday making a bubble nest - which was great except that he was making it in the little 'handles' of a floating fry tank, currently holding molly fry. I was just about to move the fry tank to a small tank of its own.
However this morning, the bubble nest is gone - not surprising since the fry tank moves around with the filter movement.
So today I'm going to set up the other tank, just a 4 gallon one. Is there any point in moving the pair of gouramis and seeing if he'll build it again, or is the opportunity lost? How long to they stay 'in heat' (sorry, breed dogs and I don't know the fish term!) for? And when are they likely to be ready again?
If this opportunity is gone, if I see it happening again, if I move them straight away will they carry on or will I have 'spoiled the mood'??

Cut the bottom 1/2' off a styrofoam drinking cup and place it up-side down in the tank. They will build their nest below it, keeping the above air from bursting the bubbles.......
He will build it again, and again. and again.....
She won't be ready untill you can see a little white spot on her vent. Feed some life food each day...........Frank

Many thanks. Cup in place now. Don't seem to be many bubbles in (although it is very difficult to see into as it's at the back of tank) but there are a lot of plants in it. They had a quick dance together about 36 hours ago but now seem to be ignoring each other, other than the female occasionally nipping the male. Can't see any white spot but then again, I'm not sure really what I'm looking for or where. Do you know if there are any online photos to show me? At what point should I say it's not happening at put them back with their tank mates? And what period of time are we looking at for the process to start again? Thanks for the help.

Male doesn't sound like he is ready (to young).
Courtship/testing eachother
He's not ready.
She's not ready yet eather. You can't miss the white spot (white button) if she is ready. They both sound like they are to young.
If anyone does, NetMax might.
Now.
Feed a good selection of food, a little bit, a few times a day and try them again in a month......... Frank

OK, I'll put them back in the main tank. Thanks for the help. Is there a site you know of that gives details of the breeding process in depth. All my books cover the basics - bubble nest, eggs, hatch etc but none give details of what to look for to show they are ready, how often they become ready, how long courtship takes, whether he builds nests regularly (someone emailed me to say her male is constantly building nests but never mates with the female). None of my books mentioned the spot either so I'm really curious now as to what to look for! The cup idea was great too - should I perhaps put one in the main tank too, just in case?
