Hi All,

I noticed a baby fish in my big aquarium. But... I don't have any livebearers in there... I have New Guinea rainbows and austrailian rainbows, buenos aires tetras, one angelfish, three clown loaches, 1 pl*co, three young kissing gouramis and two three-spot gouramis.

Who would be the most likely parents?

I know I'll eventually find out if this baby fish survives, but, I'm so curious!

Oooo, I hope it was a New Guinea Rainbow. I think they are dazzeling. And expensive. And they have been courting and flashing their lights and stuff.

I read the title and thought that sounded like my tank ! I also like you have 6 babies whom I have no idea whom the parents are. They are either guppies or mollies but im not sure. 4 look like mollies whilst the two white ones look like guppies. Im waiting for them to get bigger so I can be totally sure about what they are.

I hope you work out who or what it is ..... And if your lucky you might get more at a later date.

Yeah, and that would be totally cool with me. I just hope they can stay hidden until they are bigger. There are lots of places to hide in that tank, so it is really up to them. There is also still room for more fish in that tank. I'm not close to capacity yet. After everybody gets bigger, maybe, but not right now.

Mollies and guppies can inter-breed, so you may have a combination of the

Why not have them spawn and raise up some fry. Rainbows are almost continuous spawners. I presently have Melanotaenia trifasciata and Melanotaenia boesemani spawning. Make yourself a spawning mop out of knitting type wool and put it in the tank. Remove the wool each day and give it a gentle squeeze to get rid of the water and have a look. You will be surprised at how many eggs you will find. You can remove the eggs and do as I do and simply put the spawning mop in another smaller tank. In about 6 days time if you look very carefully as they are very very tiny you will see fry swimming at the surface. As one other poster pointed out , Rainbows will cross breed so if you want to prevent that they you will have to remove the spawning pair to a separate tank or remove the other rainbows.
