If most of you don't know, but my fish Apollo was not doing very well there for a while. I had cleaned him as I regularly do and everthing seemed fine, but then after the weekend on the monday about two weeks ago I found that he was floating on his side and staying at the top of the bowl. So on here I was told that he probably has a swim bladder infection. Now I have him at work and everybody here just knew he was going to die, but i didn't. And they made me mad becuase they just knew he was going to die and wanted to flush him while he was still alive. So a day ago I finally cleaned him and he seems better, he's still staying at the top most of the time, and he's coming down to the bottom now, but not as much because i put a plant in there now. I hope he gets used to it, because the other girl, her betta hated the plant she put in his bowl and she wound up having to take it out.
The only thing that is still wrong with Apollo is that he's still not eating. So he wasn't eating any of the pellets, so I got him dried blood worms, and he ate a little piece on thursday, but when I just tried to give him some today and he just seemed so disinterested in it.

What size bowl is he in, and have you tested for ammonia? The Betta will be under stress and will lack an appetite until the bowl is cycled. Check out the blogs for more details on the nitrogen cycle.

Awe, poor Apollo. Good on you for not flushing him while he is still alive! Just for a refresher how long has he been like this? I sure hope he picks up for you soon. Then maybe you can teach your co workers a thing or two.

Flush when he's a live?
Other then being cruel, you may just loose the fish you liked so much several days ago.
BTW, bettas are extremely hard fish.
To start with, you can replace 1/3 of the bowl water.

Sad to say you guys, but my joy is now gone, Apollo is really sick and will be dying soon, I changed his water and made sure that there was not ammonia in his bowl, but it seems it was too late, so now should I wait for him to die or what to bury him or flush him, he just looks so pitiful and I want to put him out of his misery. He's been sick like this for about two and a half weeks maybe.

Sorry Apollo is so sick. Some people use clove oil to euthanize a fish, and others use freezing. Apparently, both methods are humane. If you want to do Apollo an honor, please make sure the next Betta starts out in a fully cycled aquarium with a small filter and a capacity between 2.5 and 10 gallons.

Well, it's so hard to decide whether or not to euthanize my fish apollo. I have moved him to my house cuz i think his behavior has a lot to do with his surroundings(cuz he was at my job with me). He has popeye, so I have been giving him medication for it to see what happens to him. And i know this is going to sound so bad but he was at the bottom by the stones head first, just breathing so hard so i was really contemplating the clove oil, but then he came up to the top. My mom said that you really know that your fish is going to pass when he floats up to the top. So that's where he was for a while, now he's still on his side like he was before, but yesterday that would be Sunday for me, he started moving around on side much more then he has for a while, so now I don't know what else to do besides just keep treating him to see if he gets better, but guess if this keeps going on for a while i should give him some relief. I don't know. It's hard for me to decide to kill my fish or any pet I would have.

Be careful to not give him too much medication. If he has a healthy aquarium environment, he may have a chance to live. Please keep us posted.

So bad news, but not so unexpected Apollo has finally died after four weeks of holding on after previously being sick. It makes me sad that I had to lose him but I'm happy that he's not suffering anymore. I buried him in my back yard on sunday because I couldn't flush him down the toilet.
