will washing my aqarium gravel with a hose remove all the beneficial bacteria?

Yes, it probably will. If the gravel is really dirty and in bad need of cleaning, you could scoop out a couple of pounds, keep it wet, and put it under the cleaned gravel before you refill the aquarium.
