I got the idea for this Off Topic Discussion, from Andrea's Useless Fact of the Day, Topic.
Andrea asked a question about dreams, "has anyone ever had a dream in which they were dreaming, and knew in your dream's dream that is was, but in your actual dream, you had no idea."
I thought this might be a fun, interesting topic cos dreams are always unpredictable.
Before we start there are kids on this forum, so as we say in Ireland, Keep it country, keep it clean
Maybe this topic wont catch on, maybe it will who knows, but isn't that half the fun?
Here's my story, I have had dreams, where I am aware its a dream but cant wake. I recognise the surroundings, the same house I know which rooms not to go into. Each time I learn+remember what happened last time. Once I become aware its a dream, I have a type of contrloe over this dream. But always something new+scarey can suprise me. These dreams can be months apart but as I love horror movies I do enjoy them, most of the time..
I have 2 other dreams in different situations, that also repeat+I become aware its a dream where I can try save myself from the nightmare baddies Mind you these two dream scenario's usually only happen after Ive watched a zombie film LOL
MY QUESTION TO YOU ALL..
Have you ever had a nightmare where you woke with a fright, only to realise you were not actually awake, your still a sleep dreaming about waking from fright but the nightmare continues..?
That not so much fun! I had one, I thought I had woke 3 times til my curtain moved+something ran at me in the dark.
I pinched myself+felt pain but the cutrain still moved! When I did wake I left the light on for an hour before I trusted I was really awake this time Thankfully that dream only happened once
So guys I hope you will share your funny, weird or scarey dreams with us...

This kind of illustrates the point that reality exists only in your brain. Philosophers call it the egocentric dilemma.
So here's my dream. In 1950 or 1951 I went to sleep while a local DJ was playing an old Elvis song called Heart Breaker. The show was recorded because the DJ also had a morning gig. I woke up to the same tune and the same DJ and thought for a moment that I had just dozed off for a couple of seconds. Elvis got really popular, and i got really into aquariums.

Good year for you+Elvis then Johnarthur
Ok so my story isn't a dream this time, it actually happened. But it is related to Johnarthurs dream, in a funny coincidence kind of way..
Few yrs back while waiting in my car with my uncle for our friend. I thought my phone was ringing, the polyphonic tone of Eye of the Tiger. Only to discover that my uncle had the same ring tone. After a little argument about who's phone was actually ringing while we were trying to dig ours out of pockets/handbag. Only to discoverer we were both receiving a call+the song was on the car radio at the very same time!
Freaky or what? All 3versions of the song were in perfect sink timing wise. So you wouldn't have realised more than one song was playing.
Anywho just thought Id share cos myself+my uncle still find story funny.

Cute story!
Here's a bad dream. After retiring from a high pressure job in aerospace, i kept having a dream that i was still working and had been assigned an impossible task. So I struggled with the assignment, becoming more and more frustrated. The stupid dream kept coming back until, in the middle of the frustration, i realised in one dream that i didn't need the job any more so i walked into the boss's office, threw my badge down, and walked out. The dreams stopped.

Love the stories!
I had a dream when I was in high school about being in a cave and getting tattoos by an old man. Then I asked some kid why my sun was below my bellybutton and the moon was above, and he said "Because that's the way it's supposed to be." I still remember the dream in detail, but it's too long of a story to type .
A nightmare I used to have when I was a lot younger, was me as a tiny person (like The Borrowers) and I am running down a tube, and a spool of thread is rolling after me. I used to wake up really freaked out!
I have seen a ghost watching me also, and have experienced my bed shaking in the middle of the night. I also get really queasy/weird feelings when something bad is going to happen. And when I get those feelings, I stay home.
I have started humming a song, then turned on the radio or TV, and the same song is playing. Quite often I will also go to call someone, and they are already on the other end of the line. That happens all the time with my husband.
So now that I sound like a weirdo, I am going to stop .

Often your subconscious mind will sort out facts and make predictions, and the result suddenly pops into your conscious thoughts.

Cool dreams, some people believe our past lives filter true in our dreams. Perhaps you were once in a tribe that marked the coming of age by an elder giving you tattoos..
Curious tho were you ever tempted to get a tattoo as a result of the dream?
I had a dream not so long ago, out of the blue about someone special who passed away 26yrs ago. I only became aware of the dream as it was about to end. It was like bad reception picture on a tv clearing up, if you know what I mean..?
The person was telling me I had to go now, but I didnt want to I hugged them+started crying. But the hug felt so real I could physically feel them in my arms.
I woke up hugging myself+crying in my sleep, but that dream was the most wonderful gift I could ever have received. As I was too young to remember them in life.

I have tattoo as well decided I wanted one when I was 16yrs old spent a few yrs searching for one that was right for me. Finally one of the sketches produced was perfect, I wanted one that had meaning.
I have my tattoo few yrs now and I love it as much today as the day I got it.
As for dreams..
I had one where my alarm clock went off, I hit snooze+was nearly late for work. All frazzled when I arrived there, it was one of the LONGEST days work I ever put down! I was watching every minute on the clock. When the going home bell rang I queued to clock out, thought it was weird when the going home bell went off a 2nd+3rd time. Until I relaised it was my alarm clock going off! I had dreamed that whole days work+I had to go in and face the days work again
I was a cross as a bag of cats all day, felt like I was doing a double shift but not getting paid

HAHAHA! That's a terrible dream! I would put that in the nightmare catergory...
What does your tattoo mean? Only a couple of mine mean anything, the other ones were at milestones in my life.
I had a dream last night that I was a warrior. Too much Celtic music I think.

Small world where the celtic music+your dream is concerned..
You'll see what I mean as I explain what my tattoo means. Its part celtic, to mark my my pride of being Irish and also my strength as a fighter, that comes from my time competing in the kickboxing
The hardest part to find was a tribal marking that felt right for me. I always admired the storys/myths of the Amazon women warriors as they are said to have been in so many countries. I chose a Maori tribal marking which surrounds a celctic knot. The artist slightly altered the tribal marking to make it unique for me. It took 3hours, with no breaks think my boyfriend of the time cringed more than I did watching it being done
So what was your first tattoo of?
Wonder will johnarthur let us know what his first "just a small doodle," tattoo was...
Kept dreaming last night that I was still chasing my fish with the camera trying to take pics. As if that didnt take up enough of my time first time round LOL

My first tattoo is a tribal sign my cousin designed, and my zodiac sign above it. Then I had it redone because the first guy went too deep and I had alot of scar tissue, and then I decided I wanted it surrounded with blue. Still not the most painful one though!
My dream last night was more of a nightmare , I dreamt that I filled my tanks with chlorinated water...

this once happened to me. My (now ex) husband decided he wanted to clean the aquarium and cleaned it with chlorix. of course the pebbles absorbed this chlorix and the next day all of the fish that I had had for several years were dead

OK. The little tattoo is a thin stick with a wind catching blade at either end. One of the blades, though, is installed backwards so no matter which way the wind blows, the little stick gets pushed and twisted in all directions. The top blade is colored orange and the bottom blade is blue. It's either a silly doodle or a statement.

I've been gone from the club for a while, and just spent about an hour writing a post for the useless fact thread. Previewed it, went to google to check a fact, and returned to find my little composition gone . Have to get to work, and don't have time to repeat, so though I'd add just a little post to the dream thread:
I more than once dreamed that I was underwater, holding my breath, and thought I'd drown until I remembered that this is a dream and I can do anything I want. So I'd dream that I was sailing around underwater, breathing fine, like a fish, and had a great time. Used the same trick in other dreams to fly (maybe to get away from a monster?), then ended up having a grand time.
P.S. the tat's sound interesting, too.

The famous American novelist Earnest Hemingway claimed to have learned several European languages simply by listening. Having learned a little bit of Spanish in a classroom setting, I think it would be very difficult to pick up a language simply by listening. Of course, that's what babies do.

Delighted that this thread is starting to take off a bit.. Thought it would be nice to have a thread to chat so if we are lucky enough not to have probs with our aquariums we wont loose contact with the forum
First off dkpate and johnarthurs tattoo sound really cool! Deffo might have think about getting myself another.
So jealous of Marina K dream would be brill to dream of being able to breath under water without the invasive scuba equipment. To be able to move among the fish as tho you were one
Dream fact for today from a book my friend got me..
"Understanding, Dreams about swimming: Your surroundings in your dream will be of impotrance, for instance to swim at sea indicates greater luck than swimmming in a pool.
Swimming nude means success in your current endeavours, where as swimming with your clothes on means that you are not letting others get emotionally close to you"...

That makes sense. I wonder what Sigmund Freud would say about it. Or what if you dive in and almost have a panic attack because you can't breathe. Or see a shark, or even worse, a swarm of killer guppies.

Wow, I wish I had been more involved in this. It is a pretty interesting and insightful thread. Sometimes I wonder if we do have past lives that we relive parts of in our dreams. I have dreams sometimes where I know I am somewhere I have been before and have an intense feeling of deja vu. The dream is usually very vivid and real. Then I wake up and I realize I have never been there before in my life.
As for tattoos, I do not have any(which is weird considering I am military). I had to laugh when I saw John got his at 65 because I always joke that I will go wild when I am 60 and get one.
The language part of the thread is also interesting. I love deciphering the words of people who have English as a second language because it gives insight to how their first language is organized. I also find it somewhat entertaining when words get switched around. The cultural mix on the forum is fantastic. As for me, I mostly speak English, but I know some limited Spanish, and am currently learning Samoan. Yes, I know it might be about as useful as Klingon, but I wanted to learn a non Latin based language and Polynesian culture intrigues me. So far it has been very interesting.

Swarm of killer guppies Very good, you crac me up johnarthur!LOL
Can you imagine if one day in real life you visited a place that is the same as the vivid dream landscape that felt so familiar with..
That would be soo cool!
Would you ever consider a Polynesian tattoo Megham? There are some fab designs in colour and all black!
Id imagine visiting Hawaii's old architectural ruins and culture away from the traditional tourist routes would be brill. And only truly achievable if you can speak the lanuage, so you go girl, fair play to you!
I always thought Klingon sounded very like our Gaelic with all the deep raspy throat sounds LOL
Todays dream meaning: "To dream of foreign lands indicates a need for a break. If you dream that you are in a foreign country then it is an indication that you have aspirations towards new adventures. This dream tells you to persevere and you will achieve your wishes. To meet someone foreign in your dream is always considered to be a fortunate omen."
Well if thats the case I need a lot more hols through out the yr

My mom told me once, she was around 25-30 years old and one night she saw in here dream the lotto numbers. She woke up in a morning and still remembered to the numbers. So she wrote the numbers down, and planed to get a lotto, and who knows, give to those number a chance.
Well for some reason she did not buy any lotto.
After a week she saw in the news paper the same numbers, she just dreamed about before!
Well, let's just say she wasn't really happy!
