Okay, here's the setup. I have a 120 gallon tank, heavily planted and CO2 injected. I would very much like to move to some sort of sump filtration (using canister now) so that I can put my heaters and a CO2 reactor into the sump instead of in the main tank.

A few questions then: 1) If I use a wet/dry system will I be purging all of the CO2 in the water running through it? I suspect yes. Will the sump be large enough to hold 2 heaters and a CO2 reactor? I suspect 'it depends'.

2) If a wet/dry system is not optimal, is there another sump filter method that will let me do what I'm looking to do and still provide some filtration?

Any recommendations or suggestions in case I may be off track here?

wet/dry filters work great with co2. I was worried about that myself since I use a wet/dry filter with my 75gallon planted tank. Surface turbulence in the tank causes more loss than the trickle filter does. Here is a link to an article on this subject that Chuck Gadd sent me when I was investigating this.

My sump for the trickle filter has the heater and reactor for the co2 in it. One pump to cycle the water back to the tank, and a small cheap pump/powerhead pumping water out of the sump into the reactor and back into the sump.

as far as whether it will hold 2 heaters? that depends on the filter you get. But most should be able to accomodate 2 heaters no problem.

If the goal is mainly to get the heater and the reactor out of the tank, you can go another path (which is the one I took): I have an Eheim 2128 canister filter, which has the heater integrated into the filter, and I'm using an Aqua Medic Reactor 1000, which is external and is mounted underneath the tank in a cupboard. The output from the Eheim pumps into the reactor. From there, the water goes through a 15W UV sterilizer and then back into the tank. So, the only things in the tank are the filter inlet, the spray bar, and a pH probe for the CO2 controller. Nice and tidy, and works very well.
