I have a 10gal tank, it has been up for 5 days and I have 3 molly's in it water temp is 79f.

I am getting a white slime build up on the sides, rocks and in the filter media of my freshwater tank. I can clean it off with a scrubber and clean the filter media and rocks, but it is back within a week. Could you tell me what this is and how to treat it?

Put a little of the 'moonstone' gravel in a glass jar with some water and see if it is leaching anything - if not, try it with the plastic rock. Back in my pet shop days, every once in a while we would get ahold of products that would leach - coated color gravel leached all the time so we stoped buying it - once in a while, some of the plastic things leached their color coats also, causing a white slime. Driftwood and bogwood sometimes decay and a white slime fungi grows from it - looks bad but doesn't seem to do any harm to the fish - in fact, some of the fish will eat the fungi...... Frank

Ok I will give that a go. The fish seem to be eating it anyway - so they are happy with it. I will test the gravel and feature out.
