NPTs stands for Natural Planted Tanks a way of aquascaping, it is an ecosystem where plants and fish balance each other needs an approach pioneered by Diana Walstad, author of the book ‘ecology of the planted aquarium- practical manual and scientific treatise for the home aquarist’.

    That’s really interesting and worth a little more reading. The first home aquarium I ever saw was set up like that with nothing but gravel, fish and plants.

    I did my best to get to this perfection, but after trying a year and half, I decided to add CO2 using a DIY system, which adds CO2 moderately compared to a balloon system.

    None of my aquariums have ever reached that level of perfection, but I think they all have benefited from live plants.

    That is really interesting. A low maintenance approach is very intriguing. It seems to go against nearly everything I have been learning. The photo looks great! Personally, I enjoy doing things like moving my plants around so I don’t think it will be for me. It would definitely make an interesting experiment though.

    I thought about having an NPTS but i like to ‘fuss’ with the plants too.
