I'm sure other cichlid owners could give better advice, but I have African Cichlids that have laid eggs several times. I do know that one of them (mother?) holds them in her mouth for 18 days and then when they hatch, she will guard them. It could be the eggs are in her mouth and you won't see the babies for awhile. Try to count back when you saw the eggs, then in 18 days (or around that time), you may notice the fry hiding.

Jewel cichlids are egg layers and will ove the eggs if the parents feel the nest is threatened. The eggs hatch after 3 days.
