will my sucker fish or my goldfish eat a ghost shrimp my tank tem.is80 I have 4 gold fish and2 sucker fish [Image upload failed]
Well, to quickly answer your question, probably not. Ghost shrimp are actually known (in my research) to become the predators of fish and fish babies.
Sucker fish and ghost shrimp are tropical, meaning the 80 degree water is fine for them. Maybe a little on the high end, but I'm no expert on shrimp. Goldfish are cold water fish, and they like things a LOT cooler... And 4 goldfish are a lot for a tank. I hope you have at least a 50g just for the 4 goldfish which I'm assuming are fantails. Depending on your pleco, you may need upwards of 20g just for that fish. Both those fish are super messy, and I know shrimp clean up uneaten food, but those fish are HUGE waste producers and any type of cleaner doesn't eat poo.
Goldfish will devour ghost shrimp in a heartbeat!! The 'sucker fish' which I am guessing are plecos do NOT belong in the same tank as goldfish- plecos will snack on goldfish and can cause great harm. 80f is too warm for goldfish as well- they are coldwater fish. Too high of temps causes thermal stress as well as speeds up metabolism and leads to a shiortened lifespan. Please read this link for more information on how to care for your goldfish:
Okay, that is pretty warm for a goldfish. You should probably turn down the temt. How big is your tank? Just curious.
your peleco can get up to 2 feet long imagine putting that down ****. dude bad choice and goldfish aren't fun they do nothing at all! get like 3 guppies and 5 tetras and 3 ghost shrimp and your tank will be amazing and get another live plant as well
That's a matter of opinion I am quite fond of goldfish and plecos. And goldfish can be quite active.
If you ask some of those individuals that learned the hard way about mixing plecos and goldies, you may have a different opinion on this topic.
ive had gold fish and plecos for years and had no problems the key is to have a large tank so theres plenty of room for both goldies and plecos as for the shrimp gold fish will eat them all day and if there is a lack of food the pleco will eat them too,
top tip if your going to have srimp make sure you have a large tank and lots of rocks, small caves and grass, plants, real is best but fake will do so thay can hide away when threatened
its worked for me for years....
Had goldfishes with plego myself with no problem also here , though my plego was not fully grown yet only around 35cm long. Cant though remember the name of the breed was called "Bruno" by the store ..
You can never be sure if a pleco will harm goldfish.. yes goldfish are very attractive and active..one of the best fishes in my opinion.. but if your pleco is a big one or same the size of goldfish. you better not mix them...and yes goldfish will eat shrimps..
Although it's pretty common for goldfish to eat shrimp, I have three goldfish (1 ryukin, 2 fantails) and 4 Yamato shrimp, I've had my shrimp for around 2 months and they're still alive and doing well and thankfully have not become a goldfish snack. So in my experience goldfish and shrimp can get along (but mine aren't ghost shrimp and I'm no shrimp expert) as for plecos, I've never had one and to be honest I dont know how I'd feel about mixing a pleco with goldfish as I've heard they can snack on the goldfishes slime coat
Apologies, I didn't realise this was an old post
Will a sucker eat the shrimps
From a past experience I had a pleco that wasn't more than 15cm in my tank with dwarf gouriamis and I added 5 ghost shrimp and as soon as they came out of hiding my plec shot down and slowly swam over them then literally say on them and devoured them. So I think your plec may eat them cuz mine even had a go at my dwarf gouriamis trying to eat them hope I helped
I've honestly never had a problem with having a goldfish and a pleco in the same tank. They both started out really small, my goldfish was just a feeder fish I decided to rescue and my pleco was about 2 inches. They were my first fish and they've gotten along fine in the 2 years I've had them in my life. They don't bother my ghost shrimp (even when there were only 2 in there) and they've never bothered my other fish. My goldfish used to school with the corycats when it was tiny. Now they're in a 60gal and have plenty of space to continue growing.
This really all depends on the tank size, I had a pleco even take down a fully grown African cichlid before, let alone shrimp.
80 is too high for goldfish, they'd prefer it cooler, and the pleco wouldn't mind cooler either if you adjust it slowly.
I wouldn't suggest shrimp with pleco or goldfish.
What size is the tank? For 4 goldfish and a pleco, I'd say 80 gallons is your very minimum you should have.
