Jeesh, I'm really sorry, I should have made a list before I started typing. I've been told various different ways to add fish safely. My instructions said to put the bag into the water for about 15 minuets to let it get acclimated, and then to let some of the water from the tank into the bag and wait aging for awhile and they just release them. However, I've had some people tell me I should never put the water from the pet store in with my water because it might have some problems. If this is true, how would I go about putting them into the tank safely?

Thanks once again.

The best way to add new fish is to put the fish and water in a large contianer.Every 15 mins. add water from your tank to the container(1 cup water). After about an hour net the fish out of the container and add to your tank.

[snip] However, I've had

I usually buy small fish transported in small bags, too small to insert a net safely. After floating etc. I carefully dump the fish into a net over a container which dumps the LFS water but doesn't expose the fish to air for long. Then I move the netted fish into the home tank.

Hi Jack,

This is what I do:- Float the bag (with the compressed O2) for 10 to 15min depending on bag size. Open the bag & added 10% - 15% of equal quarantine tank water every 5min - 10min until water volume doubled. Net fish and move to quarantine tank.

Keep new fish in q-tank for at least 3 weeks before moving to main tank. I do large (up to 50%) w/c with main tank water one week before moving new fish to main tank.

Good luck.

Kuan

Depends on the store ...... My regular LFS uses the same water I do, I just float for 15 min to equalize temp and dump it in...... Never had a problem.

Other stores in the area, I've have problems with ... One I wouldn't buy fish from much less put their water in my tanks, others I'd use a quarantine tank.

Why do you do the big water change in the main tank before you move the new fish in? Is it so your tank will be more stable with smaller changes in the following weeks or what? Just curious.
